Saying Goodbye to Summer

To send off summer right, I've been taking the last week off from blogging to spend more time with A, M2 and B. We've been packing in all the fun summer activities we can before school starts up, including one that made my extreme weight loss more apparent.

I planned out a few easy day trips for us to do as a family, along with a few fun "firsts" for M2. Everything is cheap or free, keeping in line with our budget and my goals of being frugal. M2 has been enjoying her first root beer float and chewing gum. B joined her in the first time going to the pool, which was one of our family trips. For the first time in about 5 years, I wore a swimsuit. It's been even longer since I wore one in public. With swimsuits, you can't hide all the lumps and bumps, or in my case, the loose skin from weight loss, as easily. While I don't think I look awesome, I don't think I look horrible either. My old one-piece suit falls off me now. When I first got it, it was the only one that even fit somewhat. Now I've got a floral two-piece in bright colors I never would have considered wearing before because they stand out so much.

We've gone apple picking for honey crisp apples as well. It's a yearly tradition to go the one weekend each year they're available. I wait for it for months, scoping out the orchard's Facebook page so we don't miss it. When it finally arrives, we push everything else aside to make sure we make it out. As M2 has gotten bigger, she's more and more interested in apple picking. She picks them herself now. B is still at the "I'm going to sit in the wagon and demand you keep feeding me new apples after I take three bites from each" stage. The farm market required two visits for fresh peaches and veggies, along with a couple baked treats.

The county fair was on my list, but after driving by we quickly realized it wasn't something the kids would enjoy. Small, and nothing but rides they couldn't even do. Instead we did a trip to our favorite park to walk the trail we love and the fun play area.

A trip to the splash pad and walk around an old-town area featured in our family time also. Coming up are two different festivals that we enjoy going to each year, plus more apple picking (we go a few times each year). All the honey crisp are for eating, the others we pick I'll use a good portion of for yummy baked-from-scratch treats. Apple bread, apple muffins, apple crisp, apple cookies -- oh, my!

Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. As a busy mom, I'm not always able to respond to each one, though I read and appreciate them all.
